LIGNUM VITAE
Though becoming increasing rare, some Genuine Lignum
Vitae (Guaicum officinale)is still available on the market, but is no longer found in
large quantities and can be very expensive.
Argentine Lignum Vitae (Bulnesia
sarmientoi) has become widely used as a substitute wood due to
its similar appearance and characteristics to genuine Lignum Vitae
of being hard, heavy, dense, strong, and durable. It has an
average specific gravity of about 1.10 and will sink in water.
Argentine Lignum Vitae works fairly well due to its natural oils and
waxes' which also make it polish extremely easily. |
