 Exotic Wood Facts

 AFRICAN BLACKWOOD

African Blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon) is highly regarded by the makers of instruments, wood turners/carvers and fine furniture makers. African Blackwood is known for its unique qualities, great strength & durability. It has an average specific gravity of about 1.2  and is extremely dense. The wood may produce an oily dust when worked & it is recommended to use a ventilation system in the work area.

African Blackwood heartwood ranges from shades of blackish brown to jet black. Select and Premium are the two categories Exotic Woods USA separates our African Blackwood into based on the deepness of the black color. Most of our blanks are treated with a wax or anchor seal to help prevent checks & cracks in the drying process.
